The new model brings some important changes, such as a <strong>4K panel<\/strong> and a new ultra-fine frame that reduces its size externally to almost a 24 inches monitor with standard frame. In fact, it is only a few millimeters larger than the <a title=\"Review a fondo del BenQ PG2401PT\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/reviews\/review-a-fondo-del-benq-pg2401pt\/\">PG2401PT<\/a>, which I also analyzed here.<\/p>\n<p>The SW271 has the following features (see full specifications <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benq.es\/product\/monitor\/sw271\/specifications\/\">here<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>3.840&#215;2.160<\/strong> (4K) resolution (16:9).<\/li>\n<li><strong>27&#8243; IPS 10-bit panel<\/strong>, matte finish and similar gamut to Adobe RGB.<\/li>\n<li>100% coverage of sRGB\/Rec709, <strong>99% of Adobe RGB and 93% of DCI-P3<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hardware calibration<\/strong> with the Palette Master Elements software using X-Rite\u2019s EyeOne and Spyder calibrators.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integrated, high-quality 14-bit 3D LUT<\/strong>, which allows you to shape the color gamut with great flexibility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Factory calibrated presets for sRGB, Adobe RGB<\/strong>, ensuring less deviation than DeltaE 2.<\/li>\n<li>It can play <strong>10-bit HDR video up to 4K UHD<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Factory calibrated individually<\/strong> for an accurate gamma curve.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thin frame<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>HDMI, <strong>USB-C<\/strong> and MiniDP connections. Well, it seems that they have listened to us and now they are physical ones&#8230; much better! Physical buttons give the proper feedback when you press them, letting you know that you \u2018told\u2019 the monitor something and he may respond properly.<\/p>\n<p>Like some previous models, it features the convenient wired remote control:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/SW320-Control.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4746\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/SW320-Control.png\" alt=\"SW320-Control\" width=\"400\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/SW320-Control.png 400w, https:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/SW320-Control-238x250.png 238w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the monitor is turned on, you can see the incredible 4K definition. Being a 27&#8243; panel, it implies that the pixel density is very high, among the highest in the industry, no doubt. Specifically, the resolution (not to be confused with the image size of the desktop) is 163 ppi. Go figure; higher than a 15&#8243; FullHD laptop, which sets the pixel density at 143 ppi.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">The menus<\/h2>\n<p>The menus of the SW271 follow the line already marked by previous models: large size, easy to read and excellent layout. Pressing any of the buttons it makes appear a simple menu with icons:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Menus-BenQ-SW271-001.jpg\"><img These are presets, such as Adobe RGB and sRGB (factory calibrated), calibrated ones (used for hardware calibration with the Palette Master Elements software), or custom (which allow you to manually adjust everything).<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>brightness<\/strong>. As I will comment later on, the brightness reaches almost 350 Cd\/m2, which is an outrage, but nowadays seems necessary with the HDR mode.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>contrast<\/strong>. Not very useful for photographers, but perhaps it is with the monitor connected to a blu-ray player, a media player or other similar sources.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sharpness<\/strong> (an unsharp mask filter)<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>gamma curve<\/strong>. Can be adjusted manually between 1.6 and 2.6<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>gamut<\/strong> (or color range). You can choose from the Adobe RGB, sRGB, Rec.709 and DCI-P3 gamuts. The good thing about being able to choose the gamut here is that, unlike presets with the same name, it now doesn&#8217;t take away the fact that it can be combined with another gamma curve and another white point, which can be saved in one of the two custom modes, which gives you much more flexibility to use the monitor as you like.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hue and saturation<\/strong> of each of the 6 primaries, independently. Essential for manually calibrating a screen for video use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Black level<\/strong>, which allows you to adjust the black level to make it less deep if preferred. The first aspect to evaluate is the type of panel and, as it could not be less, it is an IPS of the latest technology. In fact, there are very few IPS panels with this resolution nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s curious but in a short time BenQ is making a name for himself in this difficult world. If several years ago nobody associated this brand with high-end monitors for photography, now things have changed, and more and more users mention it when talking about this kind of monitor.<\/p>\n<p>The most remarkable thing about this model is the very high pixel density, since concentrating almost 4000 px wide on a monitor only 27 inches of diagonal, is really a very high value. It is so clear that you can say that it is already close to the definition of a photograph printed on paper. With its 160 ppi it is very close to the 180 that are usually used in medium quality photographic prints. And that, looking at it from a little more than 20 cm apart, but at about 40 cm the pixel is absolutely indistinguishable to the eye.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the incredibly high resolution of the panel, it has a color gamut similar to that of the Adobe RGB 1998 space, something that is already considered common in today&#8217;s high-end monitors. In addition, the panel is of 10-bit (currently the highest level), so the gradations can be so smooth that it will be impossible to see \u00absteps\u00bb in a gradient. However, in order to fully enjoy the 10 bits, the whole chain from the moment the image is generated until it reaches the monitor has to work at the same color depth. Therefore, the graphics card must be able to do this, the software you use (for example, Photoshop can do this, but you must activate it in the preferences), the driver and the cable that goes to the screen.<\/p>\n<p>The brightness is, as usual, high. For my taste, too high. Since photographers and videographers often work in rather dark environments, excessive brightness is not particularly helpful. BenQ announces a maximum brightness of 350 Cd\/m2; I have measured 342 Cd\/m2. Native contrast and dynamic contrast are also announced, with 1000:1 and 20 million:1 respectively. In my tests I measured a native contrast of 1340:1, one of the highest currently. By the way, I think this is the first time I have seen a manufacturer announce both data clearly and unambiguously.<\/p>\n<p>It is also interesting to note that the system that BenQ uses to regulate the brightness does not disturb your vision, as it happens with other manufacturers of typically of lower categories. The technique usually used produces a flicker that cannot be easily detected with the naked eye, but if you take the camera out of your phone and try to take a picture of the screen, then you will notice the flicker when you look at it through your phone. The high-frequency system used by BenQ makes the image appear much more stable and therefore it is impossible to notice any flickering, even through a camera. Of course, this is also appreciated because after hours of working in front of this screen, because watching it becomes less tiring.<\/p>\n<p>The quality of the LUT 3D is very good, and allows to shape the tonal range through the hue and saturation controls, being able to control independently each one of the six primary ones. That doesn&#8217;t mean you don&#8217;t have to calibrate it once you connect it to your computer. I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;re thinking something&#8217;s wrong right now. Indeed, and that is because the key lies in the meaning of the term \u2018calibrate\u2019. Let me put it another way, using the correct terms this time: this monitor is factory calibrated, and that doesn&#8217;t mean you don&#8217;t have to profile it once you connect it to your computer. But in the case of this BenQ (as in other models) it turns out that several of its presets require virtually no profiling, because the accuracy with which they are set has a minor error to Delta E 2 (which is very low).<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s see it. With this setting, it would be enough to tell the operating system that the monitor profile is Adobe RGB, and it is actually <em>nailed down<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, although this model features a screen uniformization system you won&#8217;t find in the menus, while its predecessor the SW2700 had it. That&#8217;s because the uniformization only works in the factory calibrated modes.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s see how it performs in the custom mode (with no uniformization). in combination with the latest video format being distributed both via streaming (Netflix,&#8230;) and Blu-ray.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, I don&#8217;t have a Blu-ray player equipped with this technology, but I have been able to see it through my computer, with a film extracted directly from the disc and played back in VLC.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hugorodriguez.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Blu-ray-Dunkirk-4K-HDR_resize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6635\" Blu-ray) and when playing it with the mode activated you can see two things: that the brightness goes up to the maximum and the contrast of the image increases a lot, compensating for how much it is uses special software to calibrate not only the gamma curve (to match that of the graphics card) but also its color space. Considering that perfection in real world is achieved below Delta E 1, you can imagine that if the maximum error is only 0.72, the result is excellent. In fact, this is one of the best results I&#8217;ve seen so far, including much higher-priced monitors; I don&#8217;t remember seeing a validation with a maximum error so low it&#8217;s below one. Typically, the maximum is between one and three, typically because the black point usually has deviations, but it seems that BenQ has managed to take a step forward in this direction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>The SW271 is a very high-end monitor, clearly aimed at professional photographers and, perhaps even more to video, which comes to be placed in a different category than its predecessor, the SW2700.<\/p>\n<p>While the SW2700 had a typical resolution of 2.560&#215;1.440 monitor, the SW271 goes up to 4K, which puts it in a very different orbit. Just a few quick facts: 4K has 225% more pixels&#8230; (8.3 million versus 3.7 million in round numbers). The slim frame makes it possible for anyone who doesn&#8217;t have room for a typical 27&#8243; monitor (or just doesn&#8217;t want one as big like I do, as I prefer two 24\u2019s) to seriously consider making the change from 24 to 27&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p>The price accompanies the rise in performance, and also proportionally: while the SW1700 is at an indicative price of 700\u20ac, the SW271 goes up to more than 1.100\u20ac, not far from its big brother, the SW320, which I also analyzed here.<\/p>\n<div  class='avia-button-wrap av-2j7qx0-8310be8f69fd179cf7a25b66f4f39168-wrap avia-button-center  avia-builder-el-14  el_after_av_tab_container  avia-builder-el-last '><a href='http:\/\/www.benq.es\/product\/monitor\/sw271\/'  class='avia-button av-2j7qx0-8310be8f69fd179cf7a25b66f4f39168 av-link-btn avia-icon_select-no avia-size-medium avia-position-center avia-color-theme-color'  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"  aria-label=\"Official SW271 page\"><span class='avia_iconbox_title' >Official SW271 page<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p>In short, the SW271 is a very interesting monitor as it is practically a SW320 clone but concentrated in a smaller size. If you&#8217;re looking for the high definition of 4K but don&#8217;t have as much space on your desktop, this monitor is your ideal choice. Today, it is one of the sharpest monitors on the market.
